Level 3 · Checked against existing evidence

Lee Cronin, Chemify's founder, argues in PNAS that a Chemputer with step-by-step error correction could in principle make any stable molecule, and re-reads 117 robot runs to back it

If synthesis is code, a route can be shared, compiled for different machines and checked automatically, the way software is. This is Cronin's formal case for programmable synthesis, and it names the obstacle: errors pile up over many steps, so the claim rests on catching and fixing them while each step runs.

Level 4 · Tested in the physical world

An LLM agent from Cronin's group, whose founder leads Chemify, turns published procedures into robot code and runs six of them

The backlog the paper is aimed at is the published literature itself: procedures nobody has repeated, written ambiguously. If an agent can turn a paper's method into a script a robot executes, repeating a synthesis costs machine time rather than a chemist's week, and the one procedure here that would not work was found by running it.

Level 4 · Tested in the physical world

Cronin's group, whose founder leads Chemify, makes kinase inhibitors on a Chemputer and finds one that beats regorafenib in colorectal organoids

A robot-made molecule got through two rounds of design and testing. Evidence stops at flies and organoids, one lab's own work, and read from the abstract only.
